Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Birthday Cake

Hello friends and followers!

It was my daughter's 29th birthday this week and she requested a Chocolate-Vanilla Swirl Birthday Cake. And specified NO BOX CAKE MIXES. So off I went to hop on the computer to research. I found a recipe and it did mention not to over mix the recipe something about making it dense. My texture was that of a pound cake, so maybe I overmixed? Besides the texture of the cake, my chocolate side of the cake was not the best. She did say bittersweet chocolate and not to substitute that it would change the flavor, but I couldn't find anything in the store that said it was bittersweet. So, I grabbed Nestle Semi-sweet chips and melted them in a double boiler and added it to the cake mix. Who doesn't like chocolate chips?  I set aside to become the chocolate cake side of the cake batter. Number one, the density of the cake, they said it was like a brownie, in my opinion a pound cake fits the description better, and the taste was not so good, possibly the chips were not the right chocolate. The icing was basically sweetened chocolate butter...lol! How can you fail butter in any flavor? The icing tasted better than ever, and the decorated cake was a hit!  Even the inside looked good.

Practice makes perfection, I must try this again with the right chocolate for the chocolate side of the cake. I will try to give an update when I do. ;) These adorable white flowers are wafers, I wouldn't eat them myself, but they were pretty and made my terrible icing skills look amazing!
